Update: Unicode Extension for Agent (AgtEx) beta version 0.42.2026.700

RELEASE NOTES

This version of the Agent Unicode Extension (AgtEx) adds support for Unicode in the message list pane and the body pane header.
Not all header fields to be displayed are in Unicode. AgtEx can auto-detect whether a header field in these two areas is Unicode or not and display Unicode header fields in Unicode. This is an opt-in feature which is enabled by checking the “Unicode UTF-8” check-box on the font setting for the message list and for the subject.

This version of AgtEx also adds a new menu command (“No Unicode UTF-8 Display”) to temporarily turn off Unicode display in Agent’s browser window. This is to support creating filters when headers are displayed in Unicode.
Agent’s filtering is not Unicode. The menu commands “New Kill Filter (Ctrl+K)” and “New Watch Filter (Ctrl+W)” already understand this and will put non-Unicode characters in the filter expression. But when you are writing filters manually or comparing your filters with message headers, you should turn off Unicode display to see those non-Unicode characters in Agent’s browser window.

FEATURES

The Agent Unicode Extension (AgtEx) is an extension for the Forté Agent newsreader and email client. AgtEx extends the range of characters Agent can display in a single message, from one ANSI code page to potentially the full range of characters available in Unicode.

For example, Agent’s default code page “Western Europe (Codepage 1252)” supports only 218 different printable characters. With the Agent Unicode Extension, Agent can both display and enter all of these characters and very many more in a single message.
