Update: Unicode Extension for Agent (AgtEx) beta version 0.41.2023.900

Changes in this Version

  • Improvements to reply subject in Unicode UTF-8 to handle situations where Agent does not convert the original message subject to Unicode UTF-8.
  • For users of Windows XP and earlier, Unicode FULL UTF-8 (Codepage 65001) will now follow modern standards.  Invalid UTF-8 will be rendered as “�” instead of being stripped out on Windows XP and earlier.
  • In Agent’s font settings, Unicode UTF-8 is not available when the font’s script is “Symbol” or “OEM/DOS”.
  • Fix for problem under WINE using “international fonts” (not Unicode) in Agent 1.x.
  • Fix for a problem in Agent 2.0-8.00 on high-DPI screens, where in some cases Agent’s window icons may not show correctly.
  • Fix for a problem in Agent 5.0-8.00 where some attachment icons may show the Agent icon instead of the file type icon.

  3. In the Agent 4.0 – 7.00 HTML viewer, a small percentage of Unicode characters will not display correctly.
  4. Full Unicode in the compose window subject field requires both Agent 3.0 or later and either Windows XP or later or a supporting version of WINE.

System Requirements

One of the following:

  1. Agent 8.00 running in Windows or WINE.
  2. Agent 1.7 – 7.20  running in Windows 2000 up to Windows 11.

For plain text messages, the best results are with Agent 7.00 or later.
For HTML messages, the best results are with Agent 7.10 or later.
Agent 3.0 or later is required for the compose window subject field to support full Unicode.

The following systems are also supported for those who can make a small hex edit to agent.exe.

  1. Agent 1.7 – 7.20  running in WINE
  2. Agent 1.7 – 7.00  running in Windows 98 or Windows Me.

For plain text messages, the best results are with Agent 7.00 or later.
For HTML messages, the best results are with Agent 7.10 or later.
Under WINE, Agent 3.0 or later may be required for the compose window subject field to support full Unicode.
Under Windows 98 and Windows Me, the compose window subject field will not support full Unicode.

  • Copy Unicode text from a message in Agent and paste it directly into other applications.
  • Copy Unicode text from other applications and paste it directly into a Unicode message in Agent.
  • Copy and paste text between Unicode and non-Unicode messages in Agent.
  • Copy Unicode characters from your favourite character map application and paste them directly into a Unicode message in Agent.
